The governing concept is style-based treatment of form. A realistic representation generally tries to describe observed volume, surface changes, light, shadow, and specific details so that the viewer recognises the object convincingly. A decorative representation may retain the main identity of the object while simplifying, repeating, flattening, exaggerating, or rhythmically arranging its parts. Thus the amount of shading, detail, and simplification can change according to the chosen visual purpose. Option A is correct because these are the features most directly controlled by style. Option B has no artistic connection to representing form, option C is false because a change of treatment does not erase the subject, and option D is too absolute: artistic purpose can also vary. Realism and decoration are different approaches, not necessarily different subjects.
