Two original colours remain visible in a transition but the middle area is too broad. What effect may this have on the composition?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: The impact of both ends may weaken and the transition may appear flat

The governing concept is proportion within a colour transition. If the middle band occupies too much space, it becomes the dominant visual area and reduces the strength of the two original colours at the ends. The eye may then read the blend as broad and flat rather than as a purposeful movement between colours. A wider middle does not automatically increase contrast, transparency or paper darkness.
