In which type of art can the viewer become a participant rather than only a watcher?

Participatory art

The governing concept is participatory or interactive art, in which the audience is invited to do more than observe. Viewers may move through an installation, contribute materials or ideas, make choices, perform an action, or alter part of the unfolding experience. Their involvement becomes an element of the work, although the artist may still establish the setting and rules. Option A is correct because participatory art explicitly gives the viewer an active role. A closed painting, a printed book, or a still stone object can certainly encourage thought and interpretation, but none necessarily requires physical participation to complete the work. The distinction is the audience’s active contribution, not simply the fact that an artwork has an audience.
