Distortion means deliberately changing the normal shape, proportion, or size of something. It is not always a mistake. In expressive art, an artist may enlarge a nose, stretch a face, or make another feature unusually large to communicate humour, personality, emotion, or criticism. The important point is intention: the change should support the purpose of the artwork. In technical work, however, accuracy is usually more important than expressive exaggeration.
