Jean-Jacques Rousseau wrote The Social Contract, published in 1762. In this work he discussed the general will and argued that legitimate political authority should be based on the collective will of the people rather than merely on tradition or hereditary rule. Adam Smith wrote The Wealth of Nations, while Marx wrote Das Kapital. Thus, option A is correct.
