What is one important function of the Gram Sabha?
Answer and explanation
Reviewing the work of the Gram Panchayatग्राम पंचायत के कामों की समीक्षा करना
The Gram Sabha consists of all registered voters of a village and acts as the primary forum for local accountability. One key function is to review and monitor the work, plans and expenditures of the Gram Panchayat — approving or questioning actions and conducting social audits. Option B is incorrect because the President of India is elected by an electoral college, not by village assemblies. Options C and D are also incorrect since creating a Supreme Court or changing state boundaries are matters of national/state constitutional processes, not Gram Sabha functions. Exam tip: remember the 73rd Constitutional Amendment empowers Gram Sabhas with review and social-audit roles for local governance.
