In which situation will the difference between dew point and air temperature be smallest?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: Nearly saturated air

Correct answer: B. The dew point is the temperature to which air must be cooled, with its moisture content unchanged, for saturation to occur. The difference between air temperature and dew point is called the dew-point depression. When air is nearly saturated, it already contains almost as much water vapour as it can hold at its current temperature. Only a small amount of cooling is then needed to reach saturation, so the two temperatures are close. Very dry air has a much lower dew point and therefore a larger difference. Hot desert air is commonly dry, so it does not give the smallest difference merely because it is hot. Being dust-free does not determine the moisture gap. Cue: small dew-point gap means moist air; large gap means dry air.
