If interest on a partner’s loan account has become due but has not yet been paid, how will this interest be accounted for?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: It will be added to the partner’s loan account

Interest due on a partner’s loan is a liability of the firm. When it remains unpaid, it is credited to and added to the partner’s Loan Account, increasing the amount payable to that partner. It is not treated as the firm’s income, added to stock, or deducted from capital. Exam tip: A partner’s loan is recorded separately from the partner’s Capital Account.
