A partner’s Loan Account had an opening credit balance of ₹4,20,000. During the year, ₹1,50,000 was paid. Interest of ₹10,800 is due for 6 months at 8% per annum on the balance remaining after payment. What will be the closing balance of the Loan Account?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: ₹2,80,800

Balance after payment = ₹4,20,000 − ₹1,50,000 = ₹2,70,000. Since the interest of ₹10,800 is payable and is credited to the Loan Account, the closing balance is ₹2,70,000 + ₹10,800 = ₹2,80,800. Option B is only the post-payment balance and ignores the interest. Exam tip: For a partner’s Loan Account, deduct payments and add interest payable to determine the closing balance.
