A and B share profits in the ratio of 3:2. On the admission of a new partner, the value of stock is reduced by ₹5,000 and the value of the building is increased by ₹25,000. What will be B’s share of the profit on revaluation?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: ₹8,000

Net profit on revaluation = increase in building value − decrease in stock value = ₹25,000 − ₹5,000 = ₹20,000. At the time of admission, the revaluation profit is transferred to the old partners in their old profit-sharing ratio. Therefore, B’s share = ₹20,000 × 2/5 = ₹8,000. ₹20,000 is the total revaluation profit, not B’s share. Exam tip: On admission, distribute revaluation profit or loss among the old partners in the old ratio.
