Last year profit Rs 150000 was shared in ratio two to one though correct ratio was three to two. What must A do in adjustment?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: Return or adjust back Rs 10,000

The governing concept is past adjustment when profit has been distributed in an incorrect ratio. Under the wrong 2:1 ratio, A received two-thirds of Rs 1,50,000: Rs 1,50,000 × 2/3 = Rs 1,00,000. Under the correct 3:2 ratio, A should have received three-fifths: Rs 1,50,000 × 3/5 = Rs 90,000. Therefore A received Rs 1,00,000 − Rs 90,000 = Rs 10,000 in excess. A must return or adjust back Rs 10,000, so option A is correct. Option B reverses the direction of adjustment, option C ignores the difference, and option D has no support in the calculation.
