If capital account closes with credit balance on which side is it shown in balance sheet?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: Liabilities side

A partner's capital represents the amount invested in the firm and the firm's claim or obligation toward that partner. In traditional partnership balance-sheet presentation, the partners' capital accounts are shown on the liabilities side because the firm is accountable to the partners for those balances. A credit balance means the amount stands to the credit of the partner and is therefore included among the firm's liabilities.

The balance is not placed in the assets side, because it is not an economic resource owned by the firm. It is also not transferred to the trading account or the profit and loss account merely because it has a credit balance. Thus a capital account closing with a credit balance appears on the liabilities side. Option A is correct.
