Use of Realisation Account

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: To ascertain the profit or loss arising from the realisation of assets and settlement of liabilities

At dissolution, the firm’s assets are realised or transferred and its liabilities are settled. The Realisation Account records these transactions and helps determine the resulting profit or loss. Recording new investment, calculating regular partner salaries, or determining annual tax liability is not its primary purpose. Exam tip: the balance of the Realisation Account is transferred to the partners’ Capital Accounts.
