On dissolution of a partnership firm, if all assets are taken over by the partners in their individual accounts instead of being sold to external buyers, how much cash will be realised from the assets?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: Zero

When partners take over the assets, there is no sale to an external party and therefore no cash is realised from those assets. The agreed takeover value is adjusted through the concerned partner’s Capital Account, not through the Cash Account. Exam tip: distinguish ‘taken over by partners’ from a ‘cash sale’.
