Why is the effect of an earthquake not limited only to the epicentre?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: Because seismic waves travel in all directions through Earth and along its surface

An earthquake begins at the focus, or hypocentre, where stored energy is released. Seismic waves then spread outward through Earth’s interior and along its surface, so ground motion can be felt far from the epicentre, the surface point directly above the focus. Intensity generally decreases with distance, although local geology and building conditions affect damage. The epicentre does not move, and air or buildings are not the primary carriers of the earthquake’s energy.
