If outgassing occurred but Earth did not cool, what obstacle would remain in hydrosphere formation?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: Water vapour could not permanently change into liquid water

Outgassing released water vapour and other gases from the hot interior of the young Earth into the secondary atmosphere. However, adding vapour was only the first requirement for hydrosphere formation. The planet also had to lose sufficient heat so that atmospheric vapour could condense into liquid droplets. If Earth remained too hot, water would continue to exist mainly as gas; clouds, sustained rainfall and the long-term accumulation of oceans would not develop in the normal way. Thus, the key obstacle would be the absence of condensation into liquid water. Heavy metals, solar wind and ozone do not explain this temperature-dependent barrier. Therefore, option A is correct.
