Why is cleaning-solution flow important in cleaning in place?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: To deliver cleaning solution to every contact surface

Cleaning in place, or CIP, cleans process equipment without dismantling it. Its governing principle is that the cleaning solution must contact every relevant product-contact surface with adequate coverage, flow, temperature, chemical concentration and contact time. Proper flow also creates turbulence and mechanical action, helping loosen and carry away residues, deposits, microorganisms and biofilm from vessels, pipes, valves and fittings. If flow is inadequate, dead zones may remain unclean even when the chemical is correct. Therefore option B is correct because flow distributes the solution throughout the equipment and supports effective hygienic cleaning. The other options concern selling, contamination or colouring and have no cleaning function.
