Visualising the Nation

A visual source should be interpreted as a whole rather than through one isolated feature. Symbols, objects, colours, gestures, arrangement and the historical context may each communicate meaning. Options B, C and D discard important evidence and therefore produce an incomplete or misleading interpretation.

Ideas such as nation, liberty and unity are abstract, so they cannot be shown directly as ordinary objects.
