Why did Mahatma Gandhi oppose the Rowlatt Act?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: Because it allowed detention without trial

The governing concept is the protection of civil liberties. The Rowlatt Act empowered the colonial government to arrest and detain suspected political opponents without a normal trial, weakening legal safeguards and personal freedom. Gandhi therefore regarded it as an unjust and repressive measure and organised opposition through satyagraha. Option A is correct. Options B, C, and D describe benefits that the Act did not provide.
