Periyar Lake is associated with which wildlife area?
Answer and explanation
Periyar Lake is associated with the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, now commonly referred to within the Periyar Tiger Reserve landscape, in Kerala. Therefore option A is correct. The lake is a well-known artificial water body formed by the construction of the Mullaperiyar Dam, and it lies within the protected forest landscape famous for elephants, tigers and other wildlife. Gir is in Gujarat and is noted especially for the Asiatic lion; Kaziranga is in Assam and is famous for the one-horned rhinoceros; Sundarbans is a mangrove ecosystem in the Ganga–Brahmaputra delta. These locations are important protected areas, but none is associated with Periyar Lake.
