INA trials united Congress and other nationalist groups around which common issue?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: Defence of INA soldiers and opposition to colonial repression

The Red Fort trials of INA officers—Shah Nawaz Khan, Prem Kumar Sahgal and Gurbaksh Singh Dhillon—aroused strong public sympathy across India. Congress, the Muslim League and several nationalist groups came together to defend the INA personnel and oppose British colonial repression. Support for the Simon Commission was not an issue in these trials; the commission had been widely boycotted. Exam tip: link the INA trials with the Red Fort and the nationalist upsurge of 1945–46.
