Correct answer: C. Uttaramerur inscriptions

Explanation: The Uttaramerur inscriptions inform us about Chola village administration. Link the Cholas with local self-government in exams.

Correct answer: D. Sukapha

Explanation: The direct answer is D: Sukapha, also known as Sukaphaa or Chaolung Sukapha. He is traditionally associated with the foundation of the Ahom kingdom in Assam in the thirteenth century. The reasoning is: the Ahom people entered the region under Sukapha; he established the early Ahom political base; therefore the foundation of the Ahom kingdom is linked with Sukapha. Option D is correct. Option A, Lachit Borphukan, was a much later Ahom military commander, especially remembered for leadership in the Battle of Saraighat, so he was not the founder. Option B, Naranarayana, belonged to the Koch kingdom and is associated with a different political tradition. Option C, Durlabh Narayan, is also connected with the history of the region but is not identified as the founder of the Ahom kingdom. The question asks for the ruler associated with foundation, not the most famous warrior or every important ruler of Assam. The memory cue is “Sukapha started the Ahom kingdom in Assam.”

Correct answer: A. Malwa

Explanation: The direct answer is A: Malwa. Bhoja was the celebrated Paramara ruler of Malwa, with Dhar as an important centre of his kingdom. He is remembered not only as a ruler but also as a learned person and patron of literature, education, architecture, and other arts. Option A works because the Paramaras ruled mainly in the Malwa region and Bhoja is strongly associated with Dhar. Option B, Bengal, was ruled by different regional dynasties and is not the normal historical association of Bhoja. Option C, Kashmir, is another northern region with its own ruling traditions, not Bhoja’s main kingdom. Option D, Konkan, is a coastal region and was not the principal area of Paramara Bhoja’s rule. The safe exam link is “Bhoja—Paramara—Malwa—Dhar.”

Correct answer: B. 1192

Correct answer: D. Mamluk dynasty

Explanation: The direct answer is D: Qutbuddin Aibak is associated with the Mamluk, also called the Slave, dynasty. To solve this, place him at the beginning of the Delhi Sultanate sequence. Muhammad Ghori’s death in 1206 left power in north India, and his former slave and military commander Qutbuddin Aibak established his rule in Delhi. This beginning is dated to 1206, so he is regarded as the founder of the Mamluk or Slave dynasty. Option D is correct because both names refer to the same dynasty. Option A, the Tughlaq dynasty, came much later and is associated with rulers such as Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq and Muhammad bin Tughlaq. Option B, the Khalji dynasty, followed the Mamluks and began with Jalaluddin Khalji. Option C, the Lodi dynasty, was a later Afghan dynasty and included rulers such as Sikandar Lodi and Ibrahim Lodi. The word “Mamluk” means slave, referring to the military-slave background of the early rulers; it does not mean that the dynasty had no political power. Memory cue: Aibak began the Delhi Sultanate’s Mamluk/Slave line in 1206; Khalji, Tughlaq, and Lodi came later.

Correct answer: A. Agra

Explanation: Sikandar Lodi founded Agra as an important city. In exams remember the Lodi dynasty as the last dynasty of the Delhi Sultanate.

Correct answer: B. Nanda dynasty

Explanation: The direct answer is B: the Nanda dynasty. Magadha passed through a sequence of important ruling houses. After the Shishunaga dynasty, the Nandas became powerful in Magadha. Mahapadma Nanda is commonly identified as the founder or first major ruler of Nanda power. Option B is correct because it follows the historical sequence: Shishunaga, then Nanda, and later Maurya. Option A, Maurya, came after the Nandas; Chandragupta Maurya later defeated or replaced Nanda power. Option C, Gupta, belonged to a much later period and did not immediately follow the Shishunagas. Option D, Pallava, was a southern dynasty and was not the next ruling dynasty of Magadha. Memory chain: “Shishunaga → Nanda → Maurya.”

Correct answer: D. Megasthenes

Explanation: The direct answer is D: Megasthenes. He was a Greek ambassador who came to the court of Chandragupta Maurya, generally understood to have been sent by Seleucus I. He wrote Indica, a work describing Indian society, administration, cities, and the Mauryan period. Thus D is correct. A, Faxian, was a Chinese Buddhist pilgrim who visited India much later, during the Gupta period. B, Xuanzang, was also a Chinese Buddhist traveller from a later century and visited during Harsha’s time. C, Ibn Battuta, was a Moroccan traveller who came to India during the Delhi Sultanate, centuries after Chandragupta Maurya. The key link is “Chandragupta Maurya—Megasthenes—Indica.”

Correct answer: A. Huna invasion

Explanation: Skandagupta faced the Huna invasion. Link him with the defence of the later Gupta period in exams.

Correct answer: B. Mamalla

Explanation: The direct answer is B, Mamalla. Narasimhavarman I was an important Pallava ruler of the seventh century and was known by the title Mamalla, meaning a great wrestler or strong wrestler. Reasoning: identify the dynasty first—Narasimhavarman I was a Pallava; then identify his famous title—Mamalla; his reign is also linked with Pallava artistic achievements at Mahabalipuram, including important temples and carvings. Option A, Priyadarshi, is associated with Ashoka, who used that title in inscriptions. Option B is correct because Mamalla was Narasimhavarman I’s well-known title and the name Mahabalipuram is also connected with it. Option C, Vikramaditya, was used by several rulers, especially famous Chalukya and later kings, but it is not the expected title here. Option D, Alamgir, was the title of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Exam cue: Pallava ruler Narasimhavarman I, Mamalla, and Mahabalipuram form one useful memory group.

They established the new power in the southern Deccan, with important centres such as Vijayanagara or Hampi. Option B is correct. Option A, Rana Sanga and Pratap, refers to Rajput rulers, not the founders of Vijayanagara. Option C, Rajaraja and Rajendra, were important Chola rulers, but they belonged to an earlier Tamil dynasty. Option D, Babur and Humayun, were Mughal rulers of a much later period. Correct answer: B. 1674

Explanation: The direct answer is B: Shivaji Maharaj was crowned at Raigad in 1674. A coronation is the formal ceremony through which a ruler publicly assumes sovereign status. Shivaji had already built power through forts, administration, and military success, but the coronation gave his rule a formal and ceremonial foundation. The reasoning is a simple date-place pairing: event equals coronation; place equals Raigad; year equals 1674. Option B is correct because all three details match. Option A, 1659, is associated with an earlier period of Shivaji’s career and is not the year of this coronation. Option C, 1680, is the year of Shivaji’s death, so it cannot be the year of his coronation. Option D, 1707, is much later and is connected with the end of Aurangzeb’s reign, not Shivaji’s coronation. Do not confuse the coronation with the capture of a fort, a military victory, or the ruler’s death. Memory cue: “Raigad–1674” is the pair to write together in the examination.

Correct answer: C. Mewar

Explanation: The direct answer is C: Mewar. Maharana Sanga, also known as Rana Sangram Singh, was the powerful ruler of Mewar in the early sixteenth century. Mewar was a major Rajput state centred in the region of present-day Rajasthan, with Chittor as an important centre. He brought several Rajput forces together and is especially remembered for his conflict with Babur in the Battle of Khanwa in 1527. Option C is correct because Maharana Sanga belonged to and ruled Mewar. Option A, Marwar, was another important Rajput region, associated with the Rathore rulers and different political centres. Option B, Amethi, is not the region identified with this ruler. Option D, Bundelkhand, is a separate historical region with its own rulers and political history. Do not choose an option merely because it is a place in north or western India; connect the ruler with his dynasty and state. Memory cue: Rana Sanga means Mewar, Chittor, and Khanwa.
