If the focal point is clear but the viewer’s eye does not reach it smoothly, what is lacking?

Correct answer: Visual path

Correct answer: D, visual path. A focal point tells the viewer where attention should settle, but a well-organised composition also needs a route that guides the eye toward that point. Lines, repeated shapes, directional edges, colour transitions, changes in size, and the arrangement of objects can all create visual movement. If the focal point is visible but the eye arrives there abruptly or becomes lost elsewhere, the composition lacks a smooth visual path. A is incorrect because adding more colours does not automatically organise eye movement and may create distraction. B is incorrect because paper thickness is a physical material property, not a compositional guide. C is incorrect because actual texture may enrich a surface but does not by itself direct the eye. To analyse the design, trace the route your eyes follow from the first noticeable area to the focal point. Memory cue: emphasis is the destination; visual path is the route.
