Parenchyma, collenchyma and sclerenchyma
In Class 9 Science, this topic from “Tissues in Action” introduces three simple permanent plant tissues and explains how their structure supports their functions. Students learn that parenchyma consists of living, thin-walled cells involved in storage, photosynthesis and, in some cases, air spaces; collenchyma provides flexible support to young and growing parts; and sclerenchyma has thick, lignified walls that give strength and rigidity. The topic also helps students compare their locations, cell walls and roles in plants.
