Binary fission
In Class 9 Science, under “Reproduction: How Life Continues,” students learn how binary fission enables a single-celled organism to reproduce asexually. The parent cell first copies its genetic material, then divides its nucleus and cytoplasm to form two daughter cells. These new cells are usually genetically very similar to the parent and can grow independently. Examples such as Amoeba and bacteria help explain how cell division supports rapid population growth under favorable conditions.
