Thomson’s model of the atom
In Class 9 Science, this topic from “Journey Inside the Atom” introduces J. J. Thomson’s early model of atomic structure. Students learn that an atom was proposed as a uniformly distributed sphere of positive charge with negatively charged electrons embedded in it, often compared to a plum pudding. The model explains why atoms are electrically neutral and marks an important step in the development of atomic theory. Students also examine its limitations and understand why later experiments led to improved models of the atom.
