Rutherford’s atomic model
In Class 9 Science, under the chapter “Journey Inside the Atom,” students explore Rutherford’s atomic model and the gold-foil experiment that led to it. They learn how the scattering of alpha particles provided evidence for a tiny, dense, positively charged nucleus, while most of the atom is empty space and electrons surround the nucleus. The topic also introduces the model’s limitations, including its inability to explain atomic stability and line spectra, helping students understand how scientific models develop.
