Balanced and unbalanced forces
In this Class 9 Science topic from “How Forces Affect Motion,” students learn how multiple forces act on an object and how their combined effect, or net force, determines motion. Balanced forces have equal strength in opposite directions, so they do not change an object’s state of rest or uniform motion. Unbalanced forces produce a net force that can start, stop, speed up, slow down, or change the direction of motion. Everyday examples help connect force diagrams and Newton’s laws with real situations.
