Centrifugation
Centrifugation is a method of separating components of a mixture by spinning it rapidly. In Class 9 Science, within “Exploring Mixtures and Their Separation,” students learn that the centrifugal effect causes denser particles to move farther from the centre and settle, while lighter components remain closer to the centre or top. The topic connects separation methods with differences in density and explains examples such as separating cream from milk and suspended particles in laboratories. Students also compare centrifugation with filtration and understand when it is useful.
