Symbols of elements
In this Grade 9 Science topic from “Atomic Foundations of Matter,” students learn how chemical elements are represented by concise symbols, usually one or two letters. They practise writing symbols with correct capitalization, connect them to familiar element names, and recognise symbols derived from Latin names, such as Na for sodium and Fe for iron. The topic builds accuracy in reading chemical formulas and prepares students to interpret simple chemical equations.
